UX and UI
One of the requirements for this game was to not have UI in the game, so we had to come up with clever solutions to still convey how the players health, where they are aiming, what power-ups they have and how to pick up power-ups.
What we did to solve the “no UI” requirement was having TV-screens all over the battlefield. These TV-screens would switch between showing the players health when they’re in combat, and show the power-ups they have acquired if they are out of combat. We used a laser dot attached to the gun to serve as the crosshair. This laser dot always pointed at the center of the players screen so they knew what they were aiming at.
The Bridge Room and Stage Room
The level I created is seperated into two sections, the Bridge room and the Stage room.
The Bridge Room is the first room the player walks into and they must fight through a wave of enemies inorder to access the second room. The bridge room was designed around verticality and allowing the player to take advantage of the high ground against enemies that are on a lower floor.
The Stage Room is the second room the player will have to battle through, in this room they can take advantage of the pillars that serve as covers while also be wary of the enemies that have the high ground on the stage.
The Power-Ups
I have designed and created several power-ups for the game. What we wanted with the power-ups is for them to have a progression system, where if the player got the same power-up twice, it would enhance it’s abilities. Level 1 and 2 are mainly increases in numbers, such as damage, healing, affect radius, etc. While the Level 3 power-up gives the player something massive. For example, the Fire Damage Over Time power-up allows the players shots to explode, causing tons of damage on the target they hit.
